Real News: Cyprus
Much like the relationship that has been developed between the US and South Korea, it seems that the same relationship is developing between the US and Cyprus in the Mediterranean. While I am somewhat unknowledgeable about many of the things that happen politically, it seems that the major purpose of us continuing relations with South Korea is to keep a closer look on North Korea and to have bases and strike points in a closer vicinity to them. These bases may be of great importance due to the tyrant, Baby Huey, making misguided threats to both the US and South Korea. Dealing with a power with as little as North Korea, one would think the presence alone of these bases would be enough to command more civility from them. In any case, if the north does decide to act we have a platform to strike quickly and efficiently. This is what the island country resembles for the US in the Middle East. A platform in close vicinity that is in need of assistance. We entered into South Korea when helping them fight against the North. We are now intervening in Cyprus’s financial woes for what could be the same reasons. It is a good location near all of the troubled areas of the region, Iran, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, and others. It gives us distance but keeps us close. And since we are there to “help them”, they will have less problem with us being there. Just a thought but I believe one that is worth contemplating.
